Enthusiasm for Learning

A PAINLESS LEARNING PROCESS
My name is William Johnston and my passion for helping others learn comes easily. Perhaps it's because I've had to teach myself to do many things from riding a bicycle to demystifying Shakespeare to using software. I've experienced the frustration of failure and exhiliaration of a breakthrough. I understand the thought process that people go through when they learn. Simply put, my approach is to facilitate the learner's discovery by making the process appear effortless.

I have a talent for decoding complex ideas or procedures into bite-sized pieces and presenting them in engaging ways.  My diverse background provides me with an aptitude for refining my comprehension of many subjects and delivering lessons which learners find virtually effortless, making it easier for my clients to achieve all their learning objectives.

E-LEARNING DEVELOPMENT
Using Macromedia Captivate supported by the Adobe Creative Suite and other web-based tools, I was responsible for the design, technical writing and creation of a comprehensive set of web-based self-guided tutorials at Sporg Internet Inc. Dozens of interactive web modules were made available to all the clients of their powerful internet payment portal. Let me show you how interactive elearning can be.

CLASSROOM EXPERIENCE
As a professional actor I have performed in theatres across Canada and innumerable CBC Radio dramas. I have participated in educational role-playing programs for theatres in Regina, Edmonton and Vancouver.  I have also taught stage makeup through the Alberta Government Department of Culture, and coached dialects at the Stratford Festival, Ontario.  Recently, I planned and conducted drama workshops for grade 5/6 students, and provided ongoing support and ideas as the program evolved into a full production. Current offerings include adult courses and workshops in graphic design and web content development which I bring to your workplace or organization.

GRAPHIC DESIGN
I consult on marketing strategy, content creation, participate in brainstorming sessions, and advise on copywriting and art direction in developing websites, brochures, logos, displays and other marketing material for B2B and B2C clients.

MY OWN EDUCATION
I hold a BFA in Acting from the University of Alberta, and a Graphic Design Diploma with Honours from George Brown College.  I will have completed the BC Provincial Instructor Diploma Program in 2008, which includes a Train The Trainer Certificate.

ACHIEVING LEARNING OBJECTIVES
